Maruti B. Chitampalli (Devanagari: मारुती चितम्पल्ली) (b. 1932) is a wildlife conservationist and Marathi writer from Maharashtra, India.[1]
He grew up in Solapur and then went to enroll himself in State Forest Service College in Coimbatore. After completing his training, he joined the services with Maharashtra State government. During his professional life, he moved at various forests and national parks, having live experiences with various entities. This laid the foundation of his interest in writing his literary works, mostly in Marathi.
He retired from Maharashtra state government service as the Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests. He was instrumental in the development of Karnala Bird Sanctuary, Navegaon National Park, Nagzira Sanctuary and Melghat Tiger Project; also constructing orphanages for displaced wildlife at the last two institutions.
Chitampalli presided over Marathi Sahitya Sammelan at Solapur in 2006.

  • NAGPUR: Veteran ornithologist Maruti Chitampalli, on Saturday, was honoured with the Late Uttamrao Patil memorial forest conservation award for priceless contribution to forest and wildlife conservation as a deputy chief conservator, a writer and an activist.

    Chitampalli was awarded by state energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on the occasion of World Forestry Day at a ceremony held at Baburao Dhanwate Hall.

    Chief conservator of forests Anil Saxena, managing director of Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM) AK Nigam and environmentalist Girish Gandhi was also present on the occasion.

    Referring to Chitampalli, Bawankule said, "Even in this age of global warming, if we are still able to breathe oxygen, it is only possible because of people like him. Being in the field of power at present, it is going to be my duty to uphold and applaud such dedication towards the environment."

    Bawankule added, "I would insist that life of such people should be looked into as a kind of case study. Every action of this man, from being an officer to a writer, had always ended up on a global perspective and not just local."

निसर्गाविषयी ललित लेखनाचे हे पुस्तक. पक्षीतज्ञ मारुती चितमपल्ली यांनी  महाराष्ट्र शासनाच्या वन विभागात अनेक महत्वाच्या पदावर कार्य केलेय .वन्यजीव व्यवस्थापन ,वने,वन्य प्राणी व पक्शिजागाताविषयी उल्लेखनीय संशोधन त्यांनी केलेले आहे.
         ह्या पुस्तकामधील बरेच लेख जुन्या दिवाळी मासिकांमध्ये छापले गेलेले आहेत(१९८५,८४,७७ ई सालात ).पुस्तकामधील सगळेच लेखन अप्रतिम व वाचनीय.निसर्गवेड्या माणसाला /वाचकांना अजून काय हवे.जे जे आपण प्रत्यक्ष जंगलात जाऊन अनुभवू शकणार नाही किंवा सामान्य माणसाला अनुभवता येणार नाही असे त्यांना आलेले अनुभव त्यांनी कथन केलेले आहेत.तनमोराचे दिवस,धन्चीडी,रानातली घरं,पाडस,इटीया  डोहातील हुदाळे,शाल्मली,पक्षी निरीक्षण ,पांगारा,वन्यजीव निरीक्षणाची  किमया व अरण्य वाचन असे एकाहून एक सरस लेख ह्या पुस्तकात आहेत.कदाचित नावावरून  काही जणांना काहीच कळणार नाही पण वाचताना हे सगळे अनुभव आपल्याला थेट जंगलात घेऊन जातात.जंगलाच्या जादुई दुनियेची ओळख करून देतात.तशी त्यांची सगळीच पुस्तके मस्ट रीड आहेत.
    ह्या पुस्तकाला ९१-९२ सालचा उत्कृष्ट साहित्यानिर्मितीचा राज्य पुरस्कार,भैरू रतन दमाणी साहित्य पुरस्कार,मृण्मयी साहित्य पुरस्कार मिळालेले आहेत.१९९३ साली या पुस्तकाची आकाशवाणी पुणे केंद्रावर वाचण्यासाठी निवड झाली होती तसेच पाठ्यपुस्तकात देखील यातील अरणी कथा होती.
